I struggled my way toward and into adulthood carrying several diagnosis stories about my mental wellness (or lack thereof). I believed every bit, I medicated each symptom, and I was hardly okay after following the rules set by societal “normalcy” and the “correct” next steps.
In search of healing, I tried on a variety of self-help jackets, some more loosely fitting than others. They have all served me well, but it wasn’t until I adopted two core beliefs that the axis I returned to was honestly grounded:
- We are the only ones who have the answers we’re looking for.
- There is never one answer; just those that align with who we’re being when we find them.
Today I feel new, light, free and all the feel-good words we aim to use when we describe ourselves.
All those things are true.
And.
I am nowhere near finished. I still live with conflict and I haven’t reached “destination” peace. I have amateurish moments; sometimes weeks.
I am human.
I’m not here to unveil some earth-shattering step-by-step process that will fix anyone.
That’s not real.
We’re not broken.
Read that again.
I’m committed to sharing that power-stirring truth with as many people as I can.
